Sam is an analogue photographer specialising in black-and-white imagery, experimental development, and expired film stocks. Using traditional cameras and developing techniques rooted in over a century of photographic history, Sam embraces the deliberate, unhurried nature of film photography.

For Sam, creating a photograph is as vital as the finished image. Every step in the hands-on, deeply personal process feels meaningful. His work strongly features themes of isolation, barriers, and the clash between urban and natural environments.

 

Sam has been announced as the 2025-26 Creative in Residence for the Barbican Creative Hub. This opportunity will enable him to deepen his enquiry into impermanence, craft images that resonate far beyond what we see, reveal the beauty hidden within the ordinary, and explore experimental development techniques and films.
